I am looking to start growing seeds inside and had a question on lights.
I have a 4ft commercial looking fixture with the tube lights. I have looked online at the “plant” bulbs which are such a high price. Could you recommend any types of bulbs that will grow plants from seeds?
Thanks!
Sorry Jesse I have never used lights in growing. I’d say google it. Guess I should have said never used lights to start plants. I do give my begonias extra lighting in the night.
Hi there,
I was wondering how you figure out your retail price for your hanging baskets? The Fuchsia, Lobelia bacopa one (very nice by the way!)How much do your sell that for? How do you arrive at that price? Do you charge the same for baskets planted up directly from plugs, as custom ones that you have to plant up from grown plants in 4″ pots later in the season?
Lois I figure my prices based on my input costs. Although I did do most of my Calibrachoa baskets direcly into baskets this year I plant most of my plugs into 31/2″ pots then use those for planning my baskets. That way I can vary the look of each basket slightly or completley. The basket you asked about was 4 fuchsia starts( 2 each of 2 different colors) one bacopa and one regatta mix lobelia. That basket goes for $18. I’m sure that I could get more but I don’t. I also make a similar basket n a 10″ size for folks that ca’t afford the 12″ basket, turns out not everyone has a bunch of money to spend on plants. The input on the 10″ is about half considering the basket and soil prices. I have sold these for as low as $12.50, again I’m sure I could get more but the money part isn’t my main motivation at this point in my career. Sorry this reply took so long.
I was wondering where you purchase your potting soil from? I seen in your pics that it is Sunshine Mix #4, but I can’t seem to find it for a reasonable price.
Thanks so much for all your information! My cousin and I started out growing some hanging baskets to sell this summer, but have now decided (along with my husband) to try opening a full greenhouse for next year. It’s kind of addicting once you get started!
Heather you won’t find any reasonably priced sunshine potting mix, I pay$30 a bale and have to buy 2 pallets at a time,60 bales.I have gotten mine from the nursery connection below Wilsonville Oregon. You can a similar blend from home depot that is by miracle grow. It too is insanely expensive. Happy planting. (in your really expensive soil)
I consider $30 reasonable in comparison to the 50-90 I’ve been finding (plus an additional 40-50 for shipping). I definitely see what you mean about it being the most expensive piece of the puzzle.
Thanks again for all your info!
